EU membership and superb education

Cyprus has been a European Union member since 2004. For many years, successful families have settled here to take advantage of the year-round warm climate. They also enjoy low tax rates and the well-established, international education system.

International schools

Cyprus has a wealth of well-regarded international schools spread across the island. Most schools teach either the British or American curriculum. Your children will more than likely receive lessons in English. There is a handful of institutions that cater for French and Arabic speakers.

Multilingual

Omar Mina, Latitude’s Managing Director in Cyprus has advised many families on where to educate their children: “The international schools here are used to welcoming students from all over the world. Although lessons are usually conducted in English, most teachers are bilingual. All international schools teach multiple languages as part of the curriculum.”

There are over 30 international schools dotted throughout the island. Here are five that Omar regularly recommends.

The American Academy Nicosia

Founded in 1922, The Academy has a long history of providing top-class education in a caring environment. The American Academy Nicosia provides outstanding learning opportunities for students from two years and eight months to nineteen years of age. Following the British curriculum, The Academy welcomes both Cypriot and international students.

The English School

The English School is distinguished and steeped with a rich history, having been founded in 1900. The Nicosia-based school has a rigorous selection process for admittance and teaches a British-style curriculum to students at the secondary level. The campus is one of the largest in Cyprus and boasts extensive sport grounds. These include a large multi-purpose indoor sports centre, a football pitch, running and athletics tracks, a hockey field, three tennis courts, and four futsal pitches. Beautiful parkland surrounds the school.

The International School of Paphos

The highly-regarded International School of Paphos is located in the outskirts of the seaside town of Paphos. Its purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities were completed in 2006. They teach the British curriculum, in English, to students from kindergarten all the way through secondary. The school also offers boarding options for secondary students.

Foley’s School in Limassol

Founded in 1970, Foley’s is one of the most highly-reputed schools on the island. Oxbride accepts more Foley’s students than any other school on the island. There are two campuses spread across Limassol. Foley’s students come from over 45 countries and can attend the school from KG to Grade 12. Average class sizes are 25 students with 600 students overall.

Heritage Private School

With over 1,000 students from over 50 countries, Heritage Private School is one of the largest educational institutions in Cyprus. The truly multicultural school, set in the hills above Limassol, boasts state-of-the-art facilities and teaches the UK National Curriculum in English. The school educats students from nursery age all the way to 18, preparing them for entry to University.
